Girl & the Goat opened in 2010. The concept is the family-style. The dishes are influenced globally and the lively setting makes you feel at home.

The chef, Stephanie Izard was born in Chicago, Illinois. She is known for the winning of the TV show, Top Chef, in 2008.

According to their website:

Girl & the Goat was also nominated best new restaurant by the James Beard Foundation in 2011 and Izard won the Beard award for Best Chef Great Lakes in 2013. She was also named one of Food & Wine Magazine’s “Best New Chefs” in 2010.

The foods is absolutely first class, but it is also a place we can always walk in.

The Vibe

The vibe at Girl & the Goat is warm and rustic. Exposed wooden beams and candles make a homely feel as well.

Your seating choices are a comfortable lounge, bar seats and standard table seating. They have a huge open kitchen with a wood burning fire as well and if you get the table close there, you are so lucky. You can see all chef’s dedication to their dishes and which is great attraction before your foods get ready.

The place get noisy, but you do not find it a problem with their nice vibe and attentive service.

The Menus

At Girl & the Goat, all foods are served in small plate for sharing, hence ordering two or three plates for each is adequate.

The menu is divided into three categories: veggies, fish and meat, and as the name of restaurant mentions, a goat cooked in several ways is on the menu.

Popular ones are cauliflower, green been dish, beef tongue and red fish. All menus are perfectly presented by Izard’s creativity and nothing there ended up simple or good.

Just try and taste great dishes there, and please keep in mind that there are amazing desserts such as caramel corn & malt balls as well.

The Signature Dish

Their signature dish is wood oven roasted pig face. The rolled pig’s face is braised, roasted then sliced. It is served with sunny side egg, tamarind, coriander, red wine maple and potato sticks.

This dish has a lot of flavors and is complex in texture. You will see how well it is prepared, once you taste it. It is by far the best dish at Girl & the Goat.

You can visit there even only to have this fantastic dish!

Reservation is a Must

If you just walk-in, you will have to wait 1.5 to 2 hours. Hence please make sure to make a reservation in advance.

It sometimes 3 months wait, that way once your date of visiting Chicago is fixed, make a reservation soon.
