Katz’s Delicatessen is one of the most famous and popular deli in New York City.

Expensive? Tourist trap? Yes, it might be. However, don’t care about what people say.

After operating more than a century and serving for numerous locals and tourists alike, there should be various opinions, of course. And you are the one who judge.

What I want to insist here is that Katz’s Delicatessen is always on the topic. And they serve up more than 10,000 pounds of pastrami, 6,000 pounds of corned beef, and 4,000 hot dogs in a week.

It is more than enough to prove Katz’s Delicatessen is a institution in NYC.

About Katz’s Delicatessen

In 1888, the origin of Katz’s Delicatessen, Iceland Brothers, was started by the Iceland brothers. Katz’s Delicatessen has changed its name many times and taken over by several generations or even friends.

This is how they keep it as they started and it has been there as a focal point where New Yorkers congregating, laughing and having good meals together.

With more than one hundred history, Katz’s Delicatessen became a part of the culture in New York, and it is something which should be there as always in New Yorkers’ everyday life.

Why are They so Delicious?

Why are their corned beef and pastrami delicious?

The answer it easy, “Because they take a full 30 days to cure them.” They do not use injecting chemicals, any additives to speed the process nor water. Every procedure goes really slowly with giving the best flavor meat.

This is why their meat is so tender and juicy. And they sand a pile of those meat on rye and it is never fit even in a full-opened mouth.

But don’t hesitate and be mess!! Just one big bite will bring you to the heaven

The Entrance to Paying

Here is a Video which shows a order system at Katz’s Delicatessen. It helps you to get your sandwich smoothly.

As the video says, don not lose your ticket. You will have to pay a fee and it will spoil all experience there.

Special Rules

It is not a rule exactly, however Jake Dell, the fifth-generation owner, has some styles which he wants you to follow.

1)Get a Hotdog first

It seems too much to have Hotdog before your sandwich, doesn’t it? But Jake wants you to try it with making your sandwich half, because he is very proud of his Hotdog being very natural, juicy and crispy.

At Katz’s Delicatessen, don’t add ketchup, pickles or other toppings. Just mustard and sauerkraut are enough and this is how he enjoys and recommends you.

2) The brown-yellow mustard for Pastrami

If you ask for pastrami on white bread with mayo or ketchup, you will find Jake scowl. At Katz’s Delicatessen, pastrami is supposed to be paired with mustard.

They make their own mustard, which is spicy and brown-yellow. This mustard is what you should have for pastrami and corned beef, Jake is not happy to recommend you to have yellow mustard.

3) Interact with Cutter

Don’t be shy there, and interact with the guys who cut the meat. They will give you sample whichever you would like to try before you actually order.

Then just give them your honest opinions, if you like or don’t like, or how you want them cooked. They will make the best sandwich for you based on your request.

These are all about Katz’s Delicatessen.

They don’t give you the first class service, rather it is more like you follow their style.
About the price, the service, the vibe, there are various opinions including both positive and negative.

But one thing I can say for 100% sure is that there is always a great sandwich New Yorkers love, and you will not disappointed.
