In Vancouver, there is a Greek restaurant that locals frequent, called Stepho’s Souvlaki Greek Taverna.

While the food there is tasty, the true reason people go there is the size of the portions. All dishes come in humongous portions, and most people have to bring home their left-overs.

In short, Stepho’s Souvlaki Greek Taverna is for those who prefer quantity over quality. Sure, Vancouver has many restaurants that are higher qualified, more luxurious and have first class service.

However, when we speak about the price and the portion, Stepho’s Souvlaki Greek Taverna is most definitely the top 1 restaurant in that aspect.

Stepho’s Souvlaki Greek Taverna was started in 1988 and has developed a great reputation as the Greek tavern in Vancouver that offers huge portions.

Its first location is on Davie Street, and the second one opened on Robson street. Both locations are always packed with locals and Greek immigrants.

It has a welcoming vibe. Traditional Greek music is playing and the Greek blue creates a Mediterranean and laid back atmosphere.

Once it opens, the nice smell of olive oil and feta flows out, inviting people walking on the street, inside.

The Menu

The menu covers all the traditional Greek dishes emphasizing on lamb, beef, pork, chicken and prawn. While most of their menu consists of meat, they also have vegetarian dishes, as well.

Most of the dishes, cost less than $15 and are served on a huge plate, that is full to overflow. So even an appetizer, I recommend you to share.

An extensive variety of cocktails and wine is also available at an affordable price. Try the house Greek wine, which is great.

The Recommended Menus

Calamari

This is a must for your appetizer. The thin cut squid is very soft and the batter is very crispy.

The one bite size calamari is perfect to enjoy over conversations. You can hardly finish this plate alone and be careful not to eat too much before your main dish is served.

Souvlaki

Souvlaki is the one dish, most people order. It is framed by rice pilaf, roasted potatoes and a Greek salad. You can choose between a small version, with one skewer, and a large version with two.

For the skewers, you have five options: lamb, beef, pork, chicken and prawns. Sometimes, the skewers are a bit dry, however they are seasoned very well.

Roasted Lamb

If you are a fan of Lamb, I recommend you to have their Roasted Lamb dish. The plate has rice pilaf, potatoes, Greek salad and stewed veggie-briami.

The Roasted Lamb is very tender enough to fall off the bones and melt in your mouth.

The lamb is huge, hence to order the tzatziki sauce and dip it into it, is another good way to enjoy your lamb to the last bite.

As the photos show you, all dishes are huge. Hence Stepho’s Souvlaki Greek Taverna has been filling single guys or hungry students ever since they started.

Tourists might be not 100% satisfied with this place, but Stepho’s Souvlaki Greek Taverna has taken roots in Vancouver’s everyday life.
