Mamak is the most famous and popular Malaysian restaurant in Sydney. It is known for authentic Malaysian cuisine and a good service and is often shown on the magazines or guidebooks.

Now they have a flagship store and a branch in Sydney, and another branch in Melbourne. If you like Asian food or would like to feel like traveling, Mamak is a place to go.

Signature Menu “Roti”

What you should have first is Roti. Roti is like a crape and we can express it a lot thinner Nan. It is crispy and has a nice spicy flavor.

As you are waiting in the line outside, you can see the chef preparing Roti and it is a good entertainment.

They have different types of Roti (ex. Egg Roti, Onion Roti, Buttery roti.) and all of them are served with two curry dips and spicy sambal sauce.

Sambal sauce is very spicy. So please be careful not to dip too much for your first bite.

They offer Roti as a dessert also. It is tall and shapes as a cone. The extra crispy Rori is served with creamy ice-cream and will be a nice finish for a hot meal.

Try Malaysian Drink

Mamak has special Malaysian Drinks.

I recommend you to have Teh tarik which is classic Malaysian sweetened tea with frothy topping.

It is definitely sweet. I guess too much for some people. But it gives your mouth a rest between a hot dishes.

On their drink menu, there are a lot of words you don’t know and you can meet a local taste. Some might like it, others might dislike. However please take an adventure, at least it will be fun!

Be Prepared to Wait

There is always a line even if it is before their dinner starts at 17:30. They don’t take reservations so please be patient and wait.

The turn over at Mamak is quick, because here is not a place people have a quiet conversation nor a romantic dinner. So people just eat and go, then the line moves fast.

If you would like to make you waiting time shorter, earlier is better. Please go before 17:30 for dinner.
